After I pulled out the snow pea bush, there was a little more room in the organic garden in my backyard. I planted some tiny okra and melon seedlings, but it will take a long time for them to mature. The tomato plants all have lots of little tomatoes on them and they will soon start to ripen.
“We need a scarecrow!” my wife Kelly announced when I conceded that the birds would soon be eating most of the early tomatoes. She and my daughter Ava spent several hours on this craft project which involved stealing a pair of my pants, an old shirt, a cap and some broken sunglasses and hanging them on crossed brooms. As he is wearing my old clothes, the resulting scarecrow bears an eerie resemblance to yours truly.
A nice fun project for the family, but you’d better get some mesh netting for that guy to be effective.
He needs a beard, LOL!
Mike has it right. Nothing scares a mockingbird; wrap your plants in netting.
