Aw Shucks, Ya'll

Garden & Gun Magazine The Southerner’s Guide to Oysters

Whether you’re baking them, frying them, or eating them raw, there is nothing better than the sweet briny goodness of a Gulf Coast oyster…

Hungry? Wanna Get Some Tex-Mex?

We couldn’t figure out what to put on the bathroom doors instead of Men and Women. Hombres and Mujeres sounds a little formal. So we called our buddy Chingo Bling. He suggested Tejanos and Tejanitas.

The place looks like a restaurant now. We are testing recipes, burning in equipment and training waiters. I’ll [...]

Felix Chairs Restored

When Felix Mexican Restaurant moved out of their home on Westheimer, El Real bought some of the fixtures and furnishings from owner Felix Jr. to preserve the memory of the beloved Tex-Mex institution. Tarheel Tex-Mex Dinner

Brain is a Terrible Thing to Waste

We had some excellent barbacoa y sesos tacos at Gerardo’s on Saturday morning. You don’t see brain in the tacos much anymore. Meat packers stopped shipping brains after mad cow disease made everybody so nervioso about eating them. The only place you see them anymore is in carnecerias where they make old fashioned [...]
