When Felix Mexican Restaurant moved out of their home on Westheimer, El Real bought some of the fixtures and furnishings from owner Felix Jr. to preserve the memory of the beloved Tex-Mex institution. Along with a lot of old photos and menus, we ended up with about 70 of the restaurant’s old chairs.
Restoring the broken woven seats would have cost a lot more than the chairs were worth, but we wanted to use them in El Real. After a clever upholsterer recommended replacing the cane seats with canvas, we took her advice. But first we cleaned up the chairs, touched up the paint and gave them a coat of varnish.
We are very proud to have the rehabbed Felix chairs–and lots of other Felix memorabilia in our new restaurant.
Nice nod to history.
Cool!
They were uncomfortable back when they were in Felix’s. I assume then will be uncomfortable now, too! Just like the original!
God, I wish more people thought this way. I anticipate some salsa or mole sauce on that white canvas though.
Hi Robb!
They look great!! Can’t wait to visit Houston when you open your restaurant!!
I am Felix Tijerina, Sr.’s daughter. You bought them from my one and only brother.
